NEET 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed/appeared for class 12 or an equivalent exam. Candidates appearing for the class 12 exams are also eligible
  • Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English must be the major, mandate subjects
  • Candidates must have obtained the required aggregate marks in the qualifying examinations:
    • Unreserved and General-EWS Candidates – 50% marks in the qualifying examinations
    • SC/ST/PWBD candidates/Other Backward Classes (NCL) – 40% marks in the qualifying examinations

Nationality

  • Candidate should be an Indian citizen.
  • If the candidate does not reside in India then he or she should be an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India)
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)
  • Foreign Nationals
  • Candidates from the J&K state are eligible to appear for NEET 2023 under the All India 15% quota only by self-declaration. Such candidates can also get admitted to AFMC, Pune
  • Indian Citizens/ OCI intending to pursue Undergraduate Medical Courses in a foreign Medical/ Dental Institute also need to qualify for NEET (UG)

Age Criteria

  • Candidate has completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of candidate’s admission to the first year of the Undergraduate Medical Course
  • No upper age limit as decided in the fourth NMC meeting held on 21 October 2023 Aadhar Card Possession

Aadhar card is no more a mandate to participate in NEET. Valid ID proof should be kept ready. Candidates belonging to the state of Meghalaya, Assam, and J&K can furnish ration card numbers, passport numbers, bank account numbers, or any valid ID number while NRI, OCI, PIO, and other foreign nationals can produce their passport numbers for the same.

Important Eligibility Criteria for NEET 2023

Aspirants who want to appear for NEET 2023, are advised to go through the eligibility criteria. The NEET 2023 eligibility criteria include minimum and maximum age requirement, educational requirement, subjects studied in the qualifying exam, status of the qualifying exam, category, and nationality. Aspirants can go through the below-mentioned requirements, which are mandatory for aspirants to be eligible for NEET.

Minimum age requirement: Candidates who want to appear for NEET 2023 must have completed a minimum of 17 years of age at the time of admission as of 31 December 2023.

Nationality: As per the NEET 2023 eligibility criteria, aspirants have to be Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO), or Foreign Nationals.

Educational qualifications: Candidates who have either completed or are appearing in 10+2 or equivalent are eligible to appear in NEET-UG 2023.

Subjects studied: To apply for NEET 2022 exam, aspirants will have to study physics, chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board.

Minimum marks required in qualifying exam: Candidates must secure at least 50% marks in physics, chemistry, and biology combined in the 10+2 qualifying exam. For SC, ST, OBC-NCL category candidates the minimum marks required are 40%.

Documents/details required for NEET application form

Identity card: IDs such as Aadhaar card, ration card, bank account passbook, passport, or any other government photo ID card.

Personal details: Personal and communication details such as candidate and parents name, date of birth, permanent and corresponding address, active email ID, and mobile number.

Images: Scanned images of recent passport size photograph, postcard size photograph, signature, and left thumb impression.
