ABOUT TECHNOTHLON
Technothlon is a competition conducted for school students internationally by the student body of IIT Guwahati. Technothlon was started with a group of students in a small room in 2004 to inspire young minds. The competition started with students in the city of Guwahati. Later, it expanded to more than 400 cities in the past 14 years with various centres abroad.
Prerna Education helps students in preparation of Technothlon exam through developing reasoning and IQ based skills with specially designed Classroom programs for Boards and Olympiads.
Technothlon Exam
Students participate in teams of two in a series of events and contests where their mental aptitude and logic are tested. This competition was designed to build fundamental skills and knowledge and teach them to think outside the box for solutions.
Students are divided into two groups depending on the class. The groups are,
- Junior squad- This squad includes students of classes 9th and 10th.
- Haut’s squad– This squad includes students of classes 11th and 12th.
Student teams can only be formed from members who fall in the same group and the same institution.
Technothlon 2020 Exam will be conducted in two rounds prelims and mains.
- Prelim is a written exam which is conducted all over India in multiple schools in July.
- Mains: Mains is a competition where teams participate in different events conducted in “Technique,” the techno-management festival of IIT Guwahati.
Technothlon : Levels
Technothlon Prelims
Prelims are objective exam which does not involve any subjects that students study in their class curriculum. Technothlon 2020 exam is solely based on general knowledge, aptitude skills, and analytical ability. The Technothlon exam is 2 hours 30 minutes long with the question paper divided into various sections like maths, code crunchers, and puzzles.
- Both the team members are given the same question paper and can answer the questions together by discussing solutions.
- Technothlon not only checks the intellect and problem-solving skills but also tests their teamwork and how they can work with other people.
Technothlon Mains
Students selected for mains will be invited to visit IIT Guwahati during “Technique”, the techno-management festival of IIT Guwahati, held during the first week of September. Mains is an exam where students are graded based on their performance in multiple events specially designed for Technothlon every year. Teams of the same squad are made to compete with each other at these events.
- These events are designed to test the analytical and out of the box thinking skills. It is not only a competition but also a learning platform where students get to learn several new things.
- Teams that perform the best in all these events will be crowned the winner in each squad.
- Students can also attend workshops, lectures by prominent authorities, and the premises which are accompanied by top celebrities in India.
Technothlon 2020 Syllabus
Technothlon is an aptitude and logical reasoning test, so the syllabus is the same as most other reasoning based tests. The difference is that questions asked in the prelims try to test not only the student’s skills but also their ability to work with another student.
The Technothlon exam is filled with fascinating questions that assess the student’s logical thinking and presence of mind. Besides, the Technothlon exam helps in enhancing the analytical and logical abilities of students. To attend the Technothlon question papers, students will not require prior knowledge of facts or formulae. The Olympiad questions will be based on objective and subjective. It will also demand basic common sense, logical, and presence of mind.
Given below are some of the general topics which are asked in most Technothlon exams related to logical reasoning and aptitude.
- Analogy (both word-based and numerical questions)
- Odd one out (both word-based and mathematical problems)
- Ranking missing characters
- Coding-decoding, symbols, and maths operations
- Seating arrangement, blood relations, and direction test
- Syllogism
- Venn diagram
- Statement and conclusion
- Mirror & water image, configuration, fitting pieces, odd pieces, and sequence of figures
