The Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main) comprises two papers. Paper 1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. JEE (Main) is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs. Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in the country.

The JEE (Main) – 2023 will be conducted in 02 (two) sessions for admissions in the next academic session. The candidates will thus benefit in the following ways:

• This will give two opportunities to the candidates to improve their scores in the examination if they are not able to give their best in one attempt.
• In the first attempt, the students will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and will know their mistakes which they can improve while attempting for the second time.
• This will reduce the chances of dropping a year and droppers would not have to waste an entire year.
• If anyone missed the examination due to reasons beyond control (such as the Board examination), then he/she will not have to wait for one entire year.
• A candidate need not appear in both Sessions. However, if a candidate appears in more than one Session then his/her best of the JEE (Main) – 2023 NTA Scores will be considered for preparation of the Merit List/ Ranking.

Reopening of Registration window for Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2023 Session 2

Registration for Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2023 Session 2 was over on 12 March 2023. Correction window is opened till 14 March 2023 (up to 09:00 P.M.). Meanwhile, a few representations are being received from the candidates to open the registration window again for applying for Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2023 Session 2 as they could not complete their registration due to various unavoidable reasons. To support the students’ community, it has been decided to re-open the registration for receiving online Application Forms for Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2023 Session 2.

NTA Closes Application Form Correction Facility For JEE Main Session 2 2023 Candidates

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has closed the JEE Main 2023 session 2 application form correction on March 14. The candidates were allowed to make changes in JEE Main 2023 Application form from March 13 to March 14, 2023 in online mode. Candidates were allowed to edit the session 2 application form of JEE Main 2023 details at the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates were allowed to modify/rectify details filled in their submitted JEE Main application form 2023 of session 2 by logging in with the help of the candidate’s application ID and password.

JEE Main 2023 Registration Begins

NTA has started the JEE Main 2023 registration process. Candidates can visit jeemain.nta.nic.in to submit JEE Main 2023 application forms. The registration window will remain open until 12th January, 2023 (5:00 p.m.) for Session 1 and 7th Feb, 2023 for Session 2.

JEE Main Exam Dates Announced

NTA has finally announced the dates for the JEE Main 2023 entrance exam. The exam will be held in two sessions and conducted in the months of January and April as follows :

January session – January 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, and February 1, 2023

April session – 06, 08, 10, 11, 12 April 2023

JEE Main 2023 Session 1 Intimation of Examination City

NTA released the slips for the advance intimation of examination city to the applicants of JEE Main Session 1 on June 14, 2023. Candidates can download the exam centre intimation slip from the official website using their application number and date of birth. Also, the JEE Main 2023.

Session 1 exams will be held from Jan 24 to Feb 1.

Session 2 of JEE Main 2023 will be conducted on April 6, 8, 10, 11, 12.

JEE Main 2023 Session 1 Admit Cards Released

JEE Main 2022 Admit cards for Session 1 are now live on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in from January 21, 2023. Candidates can log in using their application numbers and date of birth to download the admit card.

Release Date for Admit Card of Session 2 are yet to be announced.

JEE Main is a standardized test that is conducted across different states in India. The exam is held at an undergraduate level for offering admissions in some of the best engineering and technical institutions that are Government funded or privately owned.

JEE Main 2023 is conducted for 3 sets of aspirants:

• Paper 1 is for students aspiring to take up B.E. or B. Tech. courses.
• Paper 2A  is for students aspiring to take up B. Arch. course.
• Paper 2B  is for students aspiring to take up B. Planning course.

JEE Main 2023 will be conducted in two sessions, one each in January and April.

JEE Main questions are mostly NCERT based, however, it is known to throw up a few tricky questions that are designed to test the candidate’s understanding of the concepts and analytical skills.

Brief Advisory regarding COVID-19 Pandemic:

Candidates are advised to carry only the following with them into the examination venue:

1. a) Admit card along with Self Declaration (Undertaking) downloaded from the NTA Website (a clear printout on A4 size paper) duly filled in.
2. b) A simple transparent Ballpoint Pen.
3. c) Additional photographs to be pasted on the attendance sheet.
4. d) Personal hand sanitizer (50 ml).
5. e) Personal transparent water bottle.
6. f) Sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/apple/orange) in case the candidate is diabetic.

Important Conditions and Latest Changes in JEE Main 2023

• There will be negative marking for both sections A (MCQs) and section B (numerical value questions).
• Candidates are to download and install the SANDES app on their smartphones. This will be a secondary channel to receive notifications from the NTA.
• The application process has been slightly tweaked to enable candidates to fill the form easily and in smaller sections.  During the registration process for the exam, only Session 1 will be visible at first and candidates can only opt for that. Session 2 registration will be opened at a later stage.
• A mandatory field in the JEE Main 2023 application form to be filled is the annual income of the family, including father’s or guardian’s gross annual income, mother’s gross annual income, and annual income of parents from other sources, if any.
• Choice of exam cities for the test will be based on the permanent and present addresses filled during registration.
• During the registration process candidates will have to enter the OTPs received at their registered mobile number or e-mail address before submitting the application fees.

The exam schedule for JEE Main 2022 is released by NTA. As per the examination notification, the first session of JEE Main exam will be conducted starting in April 2022. We have provided the exam dates for two JEE Main sessions below:

The JEE Main eligibility criteria describe all the terms and conditions that aspirants should satisfy in order to be eligible for the exam. Hence, to avoid rejection in later stages, the students go through and understand the eligibility criteria before registering for the exam. We have highlighted some of the important ones below.

Age Limit: There is no age limit for candidates who wish to appear for JEE Main exams. However, candidates must note that the IITs can set age criteria for admissions. The details are usually published in the JEE Main Information Brochure.

Qualifying Exam: Irrespective of the age the applicant can qualify if they have cleared their class 12th or any equivalent exam such as a two-year Pre-University exam, Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy exam, senior secondary school examination, Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination, Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination, a diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board, General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level, High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Year: Only those candidates who have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2021, 2022 or those who are appearing for it in 2023 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2023.

Qualifying Marks: There is no minimum pass percentage for appearing in JEE Main exam. However, the applicants must pass their class 12 board or other equivalent examinations.

Number of Attempts: Candidates can appear for the exam for 3 consecutive years.

Subjects Pursued in the Qualifying Exam:

The applicants must have passed the qualifying exam with a minimum of five subjects: Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject, and any other subject.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main Paper 2 and 3

Total Attempts: The candidates can appear for JEE Main for three consecutive years.

• The candidate must have secured 50% marks in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry along with 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination.
• Mathematics is compulsory for candidates applying for B.Arch./B.Planning courses.

JEE Main Reservation Criteria

The examination authority follows the reservation criteria laid by the government of India for granting admissions through JEE Main. All India ranks will be provided based on the categorical reservation policy. The percentage reservations of categories for admissions through JEE Main are as follows:

This reservation applies to institutes run by the Central Government. For reservation details regarding a participating institute, candidates can check in the details with that particular institute.

Knowing the JEE Main exam pattern is vital for candidates who want to have a smooth preparation for JEE. It helps students develop a clear idea of the marking scheme, distribution of questions, sectional weightage and exam duration. There is a new pattern for JEE Main exam. There are three papers instead of two. Paper 1 is for students aspiring for B.E./B.Tech courses in NITs, IIITs, DTU, and other GFTIs whereas Paper 2A is for B.Arch. Paper 2B is for B.Planning courses offered by these institutes.

Understanding the exam pattern enables candidates to gain a valuable opinion about the whole exam structure. Therefore, for better results, students are advised to get a complete overview of the paper pattern and devise a suitable study plan or strategy.

JEE Main Paper 1 comprises Maths, Physics, and Chemistry whereas Paper 2A has Maths, Aptitude, and Drawing Test. Paper 2B will consist of Mathematics, Aptitude and Planning based questions. The candidates can attempt the test in either one or both sessions. On the same lines as last year, there will be 90 questions overall, with candidates getting to attempt a total of 75 questions. The total marks allotted is 300.

All the papers are entirely computer-based online tests whereas the Paper 2A drawing section is conducted offline in a pen and paper-based mode. The exam duration for all three Papers is 3 hours.

JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E or B.Tech Courses)

• Exam Mode:Computer-based offline exam. The students will have to mark their responses on already downloaded answer sheets.
• Exam Duration:3 hours
• The Questions will be from topics covered in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.
• Nature of Questions: Objective-typemultiple-choice questions as well as numerical-based questions.
• The paper will have a total of 90 questions with 20 questions in section A and 10 in section B. Candidates can attempt 75 questions (300 marks) with 20 questions in section A and 5 questions in section B foreach subject – Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.

JEE Main Paper 1 Marking Scheme

• Every correct answer will be awarded 4 marks while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. Negative marking is applicable only for MCQs.
• No marks are awarded for unanswered questions.

JEE Main Paper 2A (B.Arch Courses)

• Exam Mode: Part-I: Mathematics and Part-II: Aptitude Test in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only Part-III: Drawing Test in “Pen and Paper” (offline) mode, to be attempted on the Drawing sheet of A4 size.
• Exam Duration: 3 hours
• The Mathematics part consists of 20 MCQs and 10 numerical value-based questions. Only 5 out of 10 numerical based questions are to be attempted.
• The Aptitude part consists of 50 MCQs.
• The Drawing Test will evaluate the sketching and drawing skills and consists of 2 Questions.

JEE Main Paper 2A Marking Scheme

• 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer in the Mathematics and Aptitude sections, while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
• Negative marking of 1 mark is applicable for both MCQs and numerical-based questions.
• There is no negative marking in case of an unattempted question.
• For the Drawing test, marks will be allotted on the basis of the candidate’s drawing skills.

JEE Main Paper 2B (B.Planning Courses)

• Exam Mode: Computer-based test mode.
• Exam Duration: 3 hours
• The exam consists of 3 parts – Mathematics, General Aptitude, and Planning Skills.
• The Mathematics part consists of 20 MCQs and 10 numerical value-based questions. Only 5 out of 10 numerical based questions are to be attempted.
• Aptitude consists of 50 questions, Planning consists of 25 questions. Both parts have MCQ based questions.

JEE Main Paper 2B Marking Scheme

• 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer while 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
• Negative marking of 1 mark is applicable for both MCQs and numerical-based questions.
• There is no negative marking in case of an unattempted question.

Note: All the calculations/writing work should be done only in the Rough Sheet provided at the Test

Centre or the examination Room/Hall. Once the exam is over candidates should hand over the rough sheets to the invigilator.

While the JEE Main syllabus is mainly mapped according to the NCERT textbooks, NTA does prescribe a separate syllabus for JEE. It comprises topics that are covered in class 11th and 12th standard including subjects such as Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

The syllabus for JEE Main 2023 looks to be the same as the previous years. There is no reduction.

JEE Main Mock Test

Since the JEE Main exam can be taken only in the computer-based online test the conducting authority has set up several practice centres to help the engineering aspirants get acquainted with the exam format.

Students can access the mock test for JEE Main online by visiting the link ( www.nta.ac.in) for hands-on practice. Earlier, students could also visit the practice centres set up by the National Testing Agency and take the test. This facility might now be available this time. They can train themselves for the “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode of examinations. Experienced and professional Nodal officers and staff are said to be available at the TPC. Candidates could take their help and clear their doubts regarding the exam.

How to download JEE Main Answer Keys?

To download the answer keys, open the official link published by the conducting authority. Submit your application number and password followed by the selection of your date and slot of JEE Main examination. The answer keys will be displayed. The students can also download it for future references.

Challenging JEE Main Answer Keys: Initially, the provisional answer keys are released. After comparing the results applicants can raise their objections. This should be done within a certain time frame. After considering all the valid objections, the final answer keys of JEE Main are announced.

What is the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced?

JEE Main is conducted for candidates aspiring for B.Tech courses offered in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs. It is also an eligibility test for candidates preparing for JEE Advanced, which eventually leads to admission to IITs. The students can appear for JEE Main three consecutive times; however, JEE Advanced can be taken only for two consecutive years.

What are the new exam dates for JEE Main 2023 sessions?

JEE Main 2023 sessions will be conducted in two sessions in the month of January and April. The first session will be held on January 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31, and February 1, 2023. Whereas the second session is scheduled to be held on 06, 08, 10, 11, 12 April 2023.

Is NCERT important for JEE Main?

JEE Main syllabus is mapped as per the topics covered in NCERT textbooks. Every year around 35% to 40% of questions in JEE Main are picked directly from the concepts covered in NCERT books.

What should I do to get admission in an IIT?

The students are granted admission to IIITs, NITs, and GFTIs based on the marks scored in JEE Main. For admissions in IIT colleges, the students have to clear JEE Advanced exam. The top 2.50 lakh students who qualify for JEE Main will be eligible for JEE Advanced.

How many attempts are granted for JEE Main?

JEE Main 2023 will be conducted in two sessions. The students can attempt any no. of sessions.

Can I change my paper appearing mode from Hindi to English?

The option of language for Question Paper should be exercised while filling up the Application Form online and it cannot be changed at a later stage.

Can I apply for two sessions together in JEE Main 2023?

No. In the first session, only Session 1 will be visible and candidates can opt for that. In the next session, Session 2 will be visible, and the candidates can opt for that Session.

Is it mandatory to appear for all the sessions of JEE Main exam?

No, it entirely depends on the choice of the candidate. They can opt for either one or both attempts. In case they have appeared for all the exams, the better scores will be taken into consideration.

Is the syllabus of JEE Main and JEE Advanced the same?

No, there are several differences in the syllabus of JEE Main and JEE Advanced. There are a lot of topics included in JEE Main but excluded in JEE Advanced and vice-versa. Topics like Electromagnetic Waves, Electronic Devices, and Communication Systems are included in JEE Main but excluded from the JEE Advanced syllabus.

No corrections will be permitted after the form has been submitted.

What are the new changes in the JEE Main exam pattern?

The JEE Main exam pattern more or less remains the same. The only major change this year is in terms of the marking scheme. There will be negative marking for both Sections A and B.
